POSITION: SPECIAL EVENTS ASSISTANT (student)

HOURS OF WORK: 36.25 hours per week (variable hours, weekends, evenings and holidays as required)

LOCATION:
Operations Building - Upper Canada Village
Morrisburg, Ontario

SALARY: $11.40 or $12.25 per hour

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: May to September 4, 2017

DUTIES:
THIS POSITION PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO UPPER CANADA VILLAGE’S SPECIAL EVENTS, PROMOTIONS AND SPONSORSHIP OFFICER, IN THE PRE, DURING AND POST COMPONENTS OF EVENT MANAGEMENT.

To attend pre and post-event planning sessions, other events or workshops as required. To assist in sourcing, booking and handling guest performers, artisans, event service providers, vendors, contractors, prop/equipment suppliers and rental companies. To assist in researching historically-related programming options in support of heritage events. To assist in securing quotes, maintain budgets and following procurement procedures for event related purchases. To liaise/coordinate activities with support staff from all divisions in the SLPC as required. To assist in soliciting, liaising and coordinating volunteer teams. To perform set up and tear down duties as required, and help organize and maintain ever-changing event assets. To assist in event marketing including distribution of event marketing collateral, taking photographs, conducting visitor surveys and other data collection. To contribute to the maintenance of event sections of website and related social network platforms. To provide excellent customer service while delivering miscellaneous event support during each event as required (e.g. working gate, games, retail, food & beverage, etc.) To perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge in organizing, planning and staging public events; knowledge of appropriate public relations and communication techniques and practices; ability to communicate effectively with staff, sponsors, volunteers and service contacts; excellent written communication skills; superior creativity and organizational skills; good physical condition; working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel; personal commitment to exceptional customer service; ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays; working knowledge of cameras and other audio-visual equipment; valid driver’s licence.
