Join a dynamic team at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that provides visitors with an understanding of historic military life through guided tours, interpretation, heart-pounding musical performances and precision military demonstrations. You will contribute to a great work environment with your high level of performance.


HOURS OF WORK: variable hours to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week (weekends, evenings and holidays as required)

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: May 8 to September 3, 2017

To interpret the role of a recruit drummer, fifer, bugler, bagpiper or other character in the British Army in 1867 Canada. In period costume, to interpret the public the social and military history of Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada and the Kingston area in the 1860s. To interpret, in period uniform, the role of a recruit in the British Army in 1867 Canada by executing military drills and manoeuvres. To take visitors on guided tours, to participate in historical dramatizations, events, parades and performances. To perform before the public and to attend internal and external special events. To make each visitor’s experience at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada interesting and enjoyable by providing excellent customer service.

Ability to play brass, woodwind or percussion instruments, particularly the drums, fife, bugle and/or bagpipe; ability to read music; excellent physical ability to perform 19th century British army foot and arms drill (both infantry and artillery) and to meet other essential physical demands; ability to learn historical information within limited timeframe and interpret it to the public (in both individual and group settings), particularly Canadian and/or British military and social history (circa 1867); ability to portray an historical character and perform the role in public; good communication and interpersonal skills to provide excellent program delivery, customer service and effective information service to both the public and the staff; willingness to work a variable work schedule which includes weekends, evenings and holidays as required; possess personal commitment to Customer Service, Health and Safety, Employment Equity, Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Prevention and Revenue Generation and Cost Reduction; awareness of tourism and its economic impact. A vulnerable service sector check is required for this position.
