POSITION: HISTORICAL TRADES INTERPRETER (student)

HOURS OF WORK: Variable hours to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week (weekends, evenings and holidays as required)

DIVISION / LOCATION:

Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada
Kingston, Ontario

SALARY: $12.25 per hour

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: June 26 to September 3, 2017

DUTIES:
To interpret the history of 1860s Ontario through performing and explaining a selection of activities associated with the daily life and work of trades people employed by the British Army of this period (e.g., garrison life, historical civilian and military trades); to take visitors on guided tours; to support Fort Henry programming and customer service initiatives; to ensure the safety of visitors and staff and to protect the site’s resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to communicate and to interpret effectively to large numbers of people of various ages and backgrounds; knowledge of mid-19th century Ontario history; ability to study and learn the interpretive and historical material related to the position and the Fort; ability to perform physical duties in order to carry out the various interpretive activities on site associated with the position(s) assigned; ability to wear historical costume; ability to perform and learn the skills associated with one or more of the following: garrison life and chores, a historical trade, role playing.
