POSITION: RECREATIONAL PROGRAMMER / PARK WORKER (student)

HOURS OF WORK: variable hours to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week

LOCATION: 
Ivy Lea Campground

SALARY: $11.40 or $12.25 per hour

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: mid-May to September 4, 2017 OR mid-June to September 4, 2017

DUTIES:
To plan, implement, organize, deliver and promote outdoor recreation programs and events, i.e. movie nights, Christmas in July, etc. and visitor/customer services to maximize visitor enjoyment and satisfaction with a focus on interactive family-oriented experiences; to maintain all sports and recreation equipment, as well as to ensure that activity areas are clean and safe.

As part of a work group, to carry out a variety of park-related duties and to support customer service initiatives at campsites, day-use areas and beaches. Duties include selling retail (in addition to wood and ice), upselling specialized products and dealing with inventory; garbage collection, minor repairs and painting of buildings; cutting and trimming grass; cleaning of washrooms, shower buildings; maintain flower beds; clean-up of aquatic vegetation on beaches; moving picnic tables; providing assistance at special events in the park; providing safety and security for the visitor, facilities and other parks properties; promoting user compliance with park rules and regulations through public contact and routine/non-routine patrols; completion of vehicle and equipment log books; documentation of accidents and/or injuries in the workplace; greeting visitors to the park and providing information, maps, brochures, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and/or experience in parks, outdoor recreation, interactive play experiences, local history, local natural resources, working with children, sports (i.e. camp counsellor, outdoor education/recreation, early childhood education, teacher/tutor, swimming instructor, coach, etc.); ability to effectively deliver programs to a large number of people of various ages and backgrounds with an emphasis on interactive family experiences; Ability and willingness to acquire a good knowledge of the operation of a parks in a short period of time; good communication and customer service skills to deal effectively with staff and the public; physical ability to carry out a variety of park manual duties such as cleaning, grounds keeping, moving picnic tables, lifting garbage cans, etc.; ability to learn the contents of the Parks and Recreation Policy and Procedures Manual and the Emergency Procedures Manual; ability to learn basic computer and clerical skills; balance receipts and monies and prepare bank deposits; ability to learn about Eastern Ontario tourist attractions; valid driver’s licence may be required; willingness to work variable shifts including weekends, holidays, evenings and nights. A vulnerable service sector check is required for this position.
